Local student at World University Golf Championships

Elmira’s Garrett Rank, a student at the University of Waterloo competed against the best university golfers in the world this past week.
Rank finished in a tie for 10th place at the 13th annual World University Golf Championships in Malaga, Spain. He got off to a sizzling start at the four-day event, posting an opening round score of four-under-par 68, followed by a a three-under-par 69.
Rank led the field by three strokes after two rounds, but slipped to a share of eighth place with a third round score of 82.
He finished the tournament with a two-over-par 74 on Friday, for a four-round total of 293.
Two Spaniards finished one-two atop the field of 82 men’s golfers.
Korea took home the men’s team championship, while the four-member Canadian Men’s team, which included Rank, placed fifth.
Rank is a third year economics student at Waterloo, where he plays for the Warriors golf team.
