The Elmira Sugar Kings hit the ice after the holiday break this past weekend, picking up a pair of wins to improve to 28-6-2 on the season.
Saturday at Cambridge, Riley Sonnenburg’s shootout goal lifted Elmira to a 4-3 win over the Winter Hawks.
Lukas Baleshta sent the game to overtime, pulling the Sugar Kings even with a power-play goal mid-way through the third period.
Andrew Smith and Brad Kraus both had a goal and an assist in the win. Will Cook (2), Andrew Brubacher and Michael Hasson also had assists.
Cambridge goal scorers were Marelis Subban, Brennon Pearce and Brock Campbell.
Goaltender Nick Horrigan made 25 saves for the win.
Sunday afternoon at Woolwich Memorial Centre, Sonnenburg once again tallied the game winner, scoring twice as the Sugar Kings downed Owen Sound 5-2.
Kraus and Cook chipped in with a goal and an assist apiece, while Cash Seraphim also scored. Wade Pfeffer, Mitch Dunning, Brady Campbell, Smith, Hasson and Baleshta added helpers.
Scoring for the Greys were Brooks Neithorpe and Brad Pitt.
Goaltender Justis Husak made 16 saves for Elmira, which outshot Owen Sound 62-18.
Elmira is back in action Saturday at Brantford. They host Listowel on Sunday at 7 p.m.
