Sugar Kings cruise to pair of wins in inter-conference play

A pair of weekend inter-conference games ended in lopsided victories for the Elmira Sugar Kings, who now have won 19 of 24 Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League games this season.
Elmira flattened Fort Erie 12-2 on Saturday and then dumped Niagara Falls 5-1 the following night.
The Sugar Kings scored seven third-period goals, including three of their five power-play goals on the night, in the blowout at Fort Erie.
Michael Hasson and Scott Nagy both had hat tricks and an assist.
Wade Pfeffer also had four points (all assists); Riley Sonnenburg scored twice and added an assist; Andrew Smith and Will Cook had a goal and two helpers apiece; and Brett Preistap had three assists. Colton Wolfe-Sabo, who also had a helper, and Mac Clutsam rounded out the scoring. Craig Johnson, Cass Frey, Cash Seraphim, Lukas Baleshta and Clayton Greer added assists.
Jesse Parker had both goals for the Meteors, which play in the Golden Horseshoe Conference.
Justis Husak made 22 saves in goal for the Sugar Kings.
Sunday at Elmira, the homeside added to a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals 14 seconds apart early in the second period en route to victory over the Niagara Falls Canucks.
Smith and Hasson both had a goal and an assist. Brodie Whitehead, Preistap and Seraphim also scored.
Johnson, Pfeffer, Greer, Sonnenburg and Baleshta had helpers.
Cam McLean broke Nick Horrigan’s shutout bid with 12:57 to play.
The Sugar Kings outshot the Western Conference Canucks 58-25.
Elmira’s next action is Saturday at Waterloo. They are at home against Kitchener the following night (Nov. 27) at 7 p.m.
