The Woolwich Minor Midget A team won the Hespeler Olympics Hockey Tournament, played Dec. 27-30.
The Wildcats defeated Lincoln 2-1 in the gold medal game. Jordan Moore had a goal and an assist, and Jake Kernick scored in the victory. Alex David added an assist, while Blake Ziegler was named player of the game.
Woolwich opened the tournament with a 2-1 win over Hespeler. Ryan Ament and Moore were the goal scorers, with assists going to Clinton Dechert and Kernick. Simon Baleshta was named player of the game.
Woolwich blanked Cedar Hill 7-0 in its second game, with Tyler MacGregor posting the shutout. Goal scorers were Moore (3), Ament (3) and David. Assists went to Nathan Playford, Brayden Stevens, Justin Neeb and David. Ryan Ament was named player of the game.
The Wildcats lost 4-2 to Lincoln in their third game, then rebounded with a 4-2 win over Hamilton.
David, who was named player of the game, and Moore scored unassisted goals versus Lincoln.
Dalton Taylor had two goals and Stephen Kardasz chipped
in with a goal and an assist versus Hamilton. Moore also scored, with helpers going to Justin Schlupp, Stevens and Ament. Taylor was named player of the game.
