Floradale 9
Missionary 1
After outscoring their previous two opponents a combined 17-2, Floradale continued their winning ways, destroying Missionary 9-1.
The onslaught began with a wrist shot by Dan Martin to where your mom keeps the cookies—top shelf. Less than a minute later, Floradale added another: Ryan Martin scored his first of three goals on the night on a tap-in from the side of the net. Missionary tried valiantly to get back in the game, but Jason Gingrich made some big saves to preserve the lead. Floradale tore this game open in the second period, bulging the twine four times. Tim Freeman scored twice, and Brendon Jefferson added a single, but had 5 assists on the night to put him in a 3-way tie for the scoring lead with Dan Martin and Ryan Martin. Mark Glazema added a goal in the third on a wrist shot that squeaked through Gingrich’s pads, but it was too little, too late.
Bethel 2
Community 2
Bethel opened the scoring on an absolute bomb of a shot by Tim Bauman from the point. The “Brandons” connected for a second goal when Brandon Wideman finished off a pretty passing play with Brandon Shoemaker. Community looked to cut the lead in half, but Derek Wideman made a spectacular stick save off of Gerald Martin’s shot on a rebound, taking away a sure goal. Bethel was in control of the game going into the last two minutes, but the fat lady hadn’t even started her vocal warmup. Gerald Martin got his revenge on Wideman, finishing off a 2-on-1 with the help of Ricky Brubacher. Then, with 43.1 seconds left, Tony Martin let a howitzer of a one-timer go that found the back of the net to cap off the miraculous comeback and give Community the tie.
Drayton 4
Listowel 0
Listowel joined the list of teams shut out by Kevin Ottens, following Community and Bethel, and putting Ottens’ shutout streak at just over 116 minutes in a row. Pat Landman gave Drayton all the offence they would need, scoring twice and adding an assist on Mark Scholten’s goal late in the first period. Herman Mulder put the icing on the cake with a nice goal, deking through everyone and sliding the puck past Tom Albrecht. Graham Beare played a solid game in the losing effort.
