The Elmira Sugar Kings are back in the win column for the first time in almost two weeks.
Elmira doubled Listowel 4-2 at the Woolwich Memorial Centre, Sunday, to end a four-game losing skid.
And the end of October couldn’t have come soon enough for the Sugar Kings, who closed out the month with only one win in seven games.
But Sunday, Elmira was in winning form, erasing a 2-0 deficit with four unanswered goals en route to victory.
The win also put an end to the Cyclones’ modest five-game win streak.
Tyson LeBlanc scored twice including the game winner, while Brad Kraus and Andrew Smith added goals for the Sugar Kings. Michael Therrien had a pair of assists, and Jon Jutzi also had a helper.
Miles MacLean and Bobby Cook scored for the Cyclones, which out shot the Sugar Kings 37-24. But Elmira goaltender Brandon Gorecki shut the door in the second and third periods help his team to victory.
Gorecki was also in goal in a 4-1 loss at Cambridge, Saturday, in which the Sugar Kings were outshot 47-41.
Elmira’s Ryan Johnston opened the scoring, from Jarred Parent and Smith, against the Winter Hawks, which snapped a 1-1 tie with three goals in the third period.
Brett Preistap, John Kavanaugh, and Cody Hall had power-play goals for Cambridge, while Matt Amadio sealed the win with an empty net marker.
The sixth-place Sugar Kings, which have a 7-10-2 record, host Stratford on Sunday at 7 p.m, then travel Kitchener, Nov. 10.
ICE CHIPS: Three of the Sugar Kings’ next four games are on home ice... Elmira defenceman Jon Jutzi leads the team in a number of statistical categories. Jutzi has team highs in goals (7), power-play goals (7) and points (17), while Johnston leads the team in assists (11).
