Woolwich councillors are gearing up to discuss the 2012 budget, with a series of budget discussions taking place throughout the month of January.
In September, councillors previously approved a base-line increase of 2.5 per cent to cover inflationary increases, as well as giving staff the go-ahead to investigate the impact of an annual levy to cover ongoing capital infrastructure needs. That levy, if approved, would add an additional one per cent per year, over the next five years.
A “town hall” meeting was also held late last year, to give township residents an opportunity to provide input to budget deliberations at an early stage.
This Thursday (today), councillors will deliberate on budgets for the chief administrative officer, council and information services, finance and fire; next Thursday, they will tackle recreation and facilities services, and look at planning and development. On Thursday, Jan. 26, council will consider engineering projects, council and committee budgets, as well as capital projects for 2012.
The budget is expected to be approved at the Feb. 21 committee-of-the-whole meeting.
All meetings will begin at 6 p.m., in council chambers. All are welcome to attend.
